The CHICAGO-LATROBE 50722 is an extra length high speed steel drill bit designed for long-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits fall short. Measuring 3/16 inch (0.1875 inches) in diameter with a 10-inch overall length and a 7.5-inch flute length, this bit delivers the reach needed to bore through thick workpieces, deep cavities, or stacked materials. The 118-degree notched point and web-thinned, tapered web construction reduce entry force and help center the bit on contact. The oxide finish provides a basic level of surface protection. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, or general industrial maintenance are the primary installers.
This drill bit is built for long-reach drilling in cast iron and steel. The Series 120X designation identifies it as an extended-length general-purpose bit suited for production and maintenance drilling where a jobber-length bit cannot reach the target depth. Typical applications include drilling through structural steel members, deep bosses in cast iron housings, and similar deep-hole work encountered in HVAC equipment fabrication, pipefitting, and industrial maintenance. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard 3-jaw drill chucks across a wide range of corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose extra length drill bit for use with standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel.
Install in a compatible drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Reduce feed pressure when the extended flute length is fully engaged to minimize deflection and bit breakage. Always wear appropriate eye protection when drilling metal. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped or fixtured before beginning any drilling operation.
