The CHICAGO-LATROBE 49508 is a taper length, high speed steel (HSS) twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. It measures 1/8 inch (0.1250 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute. The coated finish extends tool life in production and maintenance environments. At 5.125 inches overall length with a 2.75-inch flute length, this bit offers greater reach than jobber-length equivalents, making it well suited for drilling into recessed or deep-set features. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. A tanged shank provides positive drive in compatible sleeves and chucks.
This drill bit is intended for use in drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and tool steel. It fits standard production and maintenance scenarios where a longer reach is needed beyond what a jobber-length bit provides. The 0.1250-inch shank diameter matches the drill body diameter, and the 2.375-inch shank length seats securely in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held drilling equipment. Series 255AN is a general-purpose taper length line appropriate for both shop and field use by machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians.
Designed for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and tool steel applications. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 255AN general-purpose taper length drill bit line, compatible with drill presses, CNC drilling equipment, and hand-held drills accepting a 1/8 inch tanged shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with metalworking drilling operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the drill chuck or sleeve is properly tightened to seat the tanged shank. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety procedures. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed ratings for the material being drilled.
