The CHICAGO-LATROBE 48907 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for left-hand cutting in general-purpose drilling applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit measures 7/64 inch (0.1094 inches) in diameter and features a standard 118-degree point angle. The shorter screw machine body length provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in tight setups. Two spiral flutes with a web-thinned, parallel web configuration promote chip evacuation and reduce thrust during entry. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum, copper, magnesium, slate, thermoplastic, and wood. The left-hand cutting direction makes it particularly useful for extracting broken fasteners and studs — as the bit bites into the material, reverse torque backs the fastener out without requiring additional extraction tools. The screw machine length (1-13/16 inches overall, 13/16-inch flute length) fits well in drill presses, CNC turret setups, and hand drills where shorter tool projection is preferred. The Series 157L meets ISO standards for dimensional consistency.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, slate, thermoplastic, and wood. Part of the Chicago-Latrobe Series 157L screw machine drill line.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill powered off and, for bench equipment, unplugged or locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck jaws before starting. Left-hand bits require the drill set to reverse rotation — confirm direction before engaging the workpiece. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or chipped bit generates excess heat and can damage both the workpiece and the bit.
