The CHICAGO-LATROBE 48719 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in general-purpose metalworking applications. Built to Series 157 specifications, this bit features a 0.166-inch (Wire Size 19) diameter, a standard 118-degree split point, and a web-thinned, parallel-web construction that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The bright, uncoated finish suits dry or lubricated cutting. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.0625-inch flute length, the short-body geometry provides added rigidity for drilling in screw machine and production environments. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0007 inches, consistent with ISO standards.
This bit is suited for production drilling, screw machine operations, and bench drilling where a shorter flute length reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. Two regular spiral flutes provide efficient chip clearance. The bit is sold individually and is a right-hand-cut tool appropriate for standard spindle rotation on lathes, drill presses, and CNC screw machines.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and screw machine spindles accepting straight-cylindrical shanks. Rated for cutting cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel per Series 157 general-purpose specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified trade personnel familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before spindle engagement. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols when operating drill presses, lathes, or CNC equipment. Do not exceed the recommended RPM for the material and bit diameter being used.
