The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46732 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit in wire gauge size 62, ground to a 135-degree split point for fast, accurate starts without a center punch. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a gold oxide coating, the 46732 delivers heat resistance and edge retention in demanding materials. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.625-inch flute length, this bit is sized for tight-clearance drilling where a standard jobber length is preferred. It carries a 2-flute right-hand spiral configuration and is web-thinned to reduce thrust. Licensed HVAC, mechanical, and industrial technicians reach for this bit when drilling hard ferrous or exotic alloy materials.
The 46732 is rated for primary use in titanium and other hard workpiece materials. Its Series 550 designation indicates a heavy-duty grade intended for production and maintenance drilling where bit life and dimensional accuracy matter. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0380 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks. The web-thinned, tapered-web construction reduces cutting force on entry, making it well suited for hand-held drilling in confined spaces as well as drill-press work on thin-gauge sheet or structural members.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production drill bit for use in any drill chuck accepting a 0.0380-inch straight-cylindrical shank; primary workpiece material is titanium per NAS 907 Type J specification.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with proper cutting speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in a keyed or keyless chuck before starting the spindle. Wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped securely to prevent movement during drilling. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the material being drilled, and apply cutting fluid when working in titanium or other hard alloys to preserve edge life.
