The CHICAGO-LATROBE 46204 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, brass, and bronze workpieces. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a slow spiral flute configuration for efficient chip evacuation at small diameters. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1/16 inch in diameter with a 1.0000 inch shank length, and the overall length comes in at 1-7/8 inches. A web-thinned, tapered web design reduces entry resistance and improves centering on the cut. This bit is sold individually and is suited for installation by machinists, HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers drilling small-diameter pilot or access holes.
The 46204 fits standard drill chucks accepting a 1/16 inch straight shank. Its compact 1-7/8 inch overall length makes it practical for tight-access drilling in sheet metal, light-gauge tubing, and non-ferrous material work common in trade applications. The Series 150C designation places this bit in Chicago-Latrobe's general-purpose jobber line, appropriate for both bench drill presses and hand-held power drills. Primary workpiece materials rated for this bit include brass and bronze, though the general-purpose HSS construction handles a range of common trade materials.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary use in brass and bronze workpieces per Series 150C specifications.
Install and remove drill bits only when the drill is powered off and the chuck is fully secured. At 1/16 inch diameter, use moderate, consistent feed pressure to avoid bit deflection or breakage — excessive side load is the primary failure mode at this size. Eye protection is required when drilling metal. Secure the workpiece with a clamp or vise before drilling to prevent rotation.
