The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45718 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous metals and hard materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this Series 150ASP bit carries a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. The wire-size No. 48 designation corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.0760 inches. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch spiral flute, it is suited for close-tolerance work in tight clearances. Right-hand cut, two-flute construction with a regular spiral and tapered web configuration rounds out the design. NAS 907 Type B specification compliance confirms it meets established aerospace and industrial standards.
This drill bit is rated for primary use in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. The heavy-duty grade and web-thinned point make it appropriate for production environments, job shop drilling, and MRO applications where small-diameter precision holes are required. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, sheet metal fabricators, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication or aerospace environments will find this bit at home in both hand-held drills and drill press setups. It is packaged individually and sold in multiples of 12.
Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0760-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Fits bench-top drill presses, CNC drilling equipment, and hand-held power drills with appropriate chuck capacity.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with small-diameter twist drills. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage at this diameter. Ensure the drill chuck is tightened properly and the bit runs true before engaging the material. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel to extend bit life and maintain hole quality.
