The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45717 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, it carries a No. 47 wire-gauge designation and a decimal diameter of 0.0785 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and decreases thrust requirements at entry, making it well suited for production and maintenance drilling. The web-thinned, tapered web design keeps cutting efficiency high across a range of material hardnesses. Overall length is 2 inches with a 1-inch flute length. This bit is rated heavy duty and meets NAS 907 Type B standards. Licensed HVAC, mechanical, and general trade technicians as well as machinists and maintenance professionals are the primary users.
The 45717 is built for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks without special tooling. The 2-flute spiral design evacuates chips efficiently in deep-hole and cross-drilling applications common in mechanical rooms, fabrication shops, and field service work. The Series 150ASP designation places it in Chicago-Latrobe's heavy-duty jobber line, intended for continuous production use as well as demanding intermittent service tasks.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style replacement or production-use jobber bit for applications requiring a No. 47 wire-gauge diameter in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel; compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0785-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists, mechanical technicians, or trade professionals familiar with drill press or hand-drill operation. Always secure the workpiece and power down or unplug the drilling tool before changing bits. Confirm chuck tightness before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the material being drilled, and use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to prevent premature bit wear.
