The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45709 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit carries a wire gauge size of 39, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.0995 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust force needed to start a hole, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials. The regular spiral, two-flute design evacuates chips efficiently across a flute length of 1.375 inches, with an overall length of 2.375 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks without slipping under load. This bit meets NAS 907 Type B specification and is graded heavy duty.
The 45709 is intended for use on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. Its compact jobber length makes it practical for use in tight or restricted drilling setups common in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work. The oxide finish provides a degree of corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. This bit is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 12 units, making it practical for shop stocking or fleet service vehicle kits.
Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0995-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150ASP jobber-length drill bit line.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard keyed or keyless drill chucks on corded or cordless equipment. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace the bit if the point shows chipping or significant wear.
