The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45018 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built to wire gauge size 48 with a decimal diameter of 0.0760 inches, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows immediate cutting contact without a center punch. The TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) coating adds heat and wear resistance, making it well-suited for sustained production use. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch spiral flute, the 45018 is sized for close-tolerance work in tight-clearance applications. The M42 cobalt steel construction provides hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures.
This bit is designed for drilling titanium as its primary workpiece material, which is consistent with the NAS 907 Type J and DIN 338 standards it meets. It is well-matched for aerospace, industrial maintenance, and precision fabrication environments where titanium and other high-strength alloys are regularly machined. The right-hand spiral flute and web-thinned, tapered web geometry promote chip evacuation and reduce thrust force. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 12 units, making it practical for shop stocking or field service kits.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production drill bit for applications involving titanium and other high-strength alloys per NAS 907 Type J specification, in Series 550TA. No coolant-through capability; intended for use with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0760-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This bit is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, aerospace fabricators, and industrial maintenance technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible drill chuck before operation and verify spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for small-diameter cobalt bits, as excessive force can cause breakage. When drilling titanium, use appropriate cutting fluid to manage heat even though this bit does not have coolant-through capability.
