The CHICAGO-LATROBE 45006 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 36, with a decimal diameter of 0.1065 inches. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiAlN, it handles high-heat applications where standard HSS bits wear out quickly. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or smooth surfaces. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a 1.4375-inch flute length. It is sold individually and intended for professional machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, aerospace technicians, and maintenance mechanics drilling hard alloys and difficult materials.
The 45006 is rated for drilling titanium as its primary workpiece material, making it a direct fit for aerospace, defense, and precision manufacturing environments. The TiAlN coating increases surface hardness and oxidation resistance, extending tool life at elevated cutting speeds. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix efficiently evacuates chips from the hole. Web-thinned geometry and a tapered web reduce thrust and improve cutting action in tough alloys. This bit meets NAS 907 Type J and DIN 338 standards, which are commonly required for aerospace and defense fabrication specifications.
Designed as a Series 550TA jobber-length replacement or new-installation drill bit for use in standard keyless or keyed drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1065-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for titanium and other hard alloys per NAS 907 Type J specification.
Install in a drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill with a chuck capacity matching a 0.1065-inch shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling titanium and hard alloys to manage heat, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edge and coating before each use and replace the bit if chipping or coating breakdown is visible.
