The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44825 is a cobalt taper length drill bit built for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Part of the Series 520 lineup, this bit measures 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch) in diameter and carries a 135-degree split-point tip that enables self-centering entry without a center punch. The black oxide finish reduces friction and helps with chip evacuation. At 7 inches overall length with a 4-3/8 inch spiral flute, it delivers the extended reach that taper length geometry is known for. The straight cylindrical shank and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill chucks. Material grade M42 cobalt provides heat resistance and edge retention for demanding production work.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking applications in both shop and field environments. It is designed for cutting cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium - materials that typically defeat standard high-speed steel bits. The self-centering split point and web-thinned tip reduce thrust requirements, making it practical for hand-held drilling as well as drill press and CNC setups. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople are the primary users of this bit type.
Rated for use in cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. Fits any drill chuck or collet that accepts a 25/64 inch (9.92 mm) straight shank.
This bit is installed and used by machinists and metalworking technicians in shop or maintenance settings. Before mounting, confirm the chuck or collet is clear of debris and the workpiece is secure. Use appropriate cutting fluid for hard alloys such as Inconel or titanium to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before use - cobalt bits are brittle under side loads and should not be used as a lever or pry.
