The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44807 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in industrial and trade environments. Built from M-42 cobalt high-speed steel, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or abrasive materials. The 3/32-inch (0.0938-inch) diameter straight shank fits standard drill chucks, and the spiral flute geometry with web thinning promotes efficient chip evacuation. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this bit where standard HSS tooling loses its edge too quickly.
The 44807 is built for cutting cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. These are materials that generate significant heat and accelerate wear on conventional drill bits. The cobalt M-42 grade and coated finish extend tool life in these conditions. The taper length body provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits when working in moderate-depth holes, and the tapered web configuration maintains point strength through the full flute length. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and aerospace or heavy-equipment repair work where hard and exotic metals are common.
Rated for use in cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium. Compatible with any drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a straight-shank chuck capable of holding a 3/32-inch shank. Part of the Chicago-Latrobe Series 520 taper length drill program.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before starting the spindle and verify runout is within acceptable limits before cutting into workpiece material. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling Inconel, titanium, or manganese steel, to manage heat buildup. Ensure the workpiece is properly clamped to prevent walking at entry even with a split-point geometry. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or glazing is observed on the flutes or point.
