The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44805 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in professional machine shop and fabrication environments. Built from M-42 cobalt high-speed steel, it measures 5/64 inch (0.0781 inches) in diameter with a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that promotes self-centering entry and reduces walking on hard materials. The flute length is 2 inches, overall length is 3-3/4 inches, and the straight shank diameter matches the drill diameter at 0.0781 inches. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during through-hole operations. This bit is sold individually and ordered in multiples of 12.
This drill bit is engineered for use in cast iron, high-tensile steel, Inconel, manganese steel, and titanium — materials that demand a high-cobalt grade to maintain edge integrity under heat and pressure. This bit is installed and used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians operating drill presses, milling machines, or CNC drilling equipment. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling Inconel or titanium, to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as cobalt bits used beyond their service life on hard alloys can fracture.
