The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44309 is a jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge 39, equivalent to 0.0995 inches in diameter. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a standard 118-degree split point with web thinning for improved penetration and reduced walking on entry. The two-flute spiral design with a regular spiral type promotes efficient chip evacuation. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is built to Series 150D specifications conforming to DIN 338. It is suited for general-purpose drilling in production and maintenance environments.
This bit is designed for drilling non-ferrous metals and other general-purpose materials where a small-diameter, wire gauge drill is required. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in keyed or keyless chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drill heads. The web-thinned, tapered web geometry reduces thrust requirements, making it practical for close-tolerance work on thin stock or where breakout control matters. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working with aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials will find this a standard stock bit for everyday production drilling tasks.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0995-inch straight cylindrical shank, suitable for benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling equipment used on non-ferrous and general-purpose workpiece materials.
Install the shank fully into a properly sized drill chuck and verify it is firmly secured before operation. Power down and disconnect the drill or machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling non-ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage under side load or excessive feed pressure.
