The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44221 is a jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, mechanical, and trade service applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point and a spiral flute with regular helix for consistent chip evacuation. The 21/64 inch diameter shank matches the cutting diameter, and the overall length measures 4-5/8 inches, placing it in the standard jobber length range. The web is thinned and tapered, reducing entry resistance and improving centering on harder workpiece surfaces. Licensed HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and general tradespeople rely on this type of bit for everyday hole-making tasks in non-ferrous metals and similar materials.
The 44221 is suited for drilling non-ferrous metals including aluminum, copper, and brass, which makes it relevant across HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades where sheet metal penetrations, pipe flanges, and panel knockouts are routine. The 2-flute spiral design clears chips efficiently in through-hole drilling at standard drill press or hand-drill speeds. With a 3-5/16 inch flute length and straight cylindrical shank, it seats securely in standard 3-jaw chucks and keyless chucks across common cordless and corded drill platforms. The Series 150D meets DIN 338 standards for jobber length bits.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit for use in non-ferrous metals; fits any standard 3-jaw or keyless chuck that accepts a straight cylindrical shank at the 21/64 inch shank diameter.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed or qualified tradesperson using a standard drill chuck key or keyless chuck mechanism — ensure the drill or drill press is fully powered off and unplugged before changing bits. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent movement, and use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling in harder non-ferrous alloys to extend bit life. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the bit diameter, and inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use. Dispose of worn bits in accordance with local shop safety practices.
