The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44217 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and features a standard 118-degree point angle with web thinning for improved penetration. The 17/64-inch diameter bit runs a regular spiral flute with a right-hand cutting direction. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 17/64 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 4-1/8 inches with a flute length of 2-7/8 inches. This bit is part of the Series 150D line and meets DIN 338 standards. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and general trade professionals will find it suited to everyday production and repair drilling tasks.
The 44217 is intended for use in portable electric drills, drill presses, and bench-mounted drilling equipment. It is sized for common fastener clearance and pilot hole work in non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper, as well as plastics and softer materials. The 17/64-inch diameter and 4-1/8-inch overall length make it a practical fit for standard jobber-length drill chucks found across most trade and shop applications. The two-flute spiral design promotes chip evacuation in typical through-hole and blind-hole drilling scenarios.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit suitable for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 17/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with portable drills and stationary drill press equipment used on non-ferrous metals and similar workpiece materials.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or trade technician using a properly sized drill chuck with the chuck key fully tightened before operation. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped or fixtured before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication when drilling metals to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or damage before each use and do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material.
