The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44130 is a No. 60 wire gauge jobber length drill bit manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating. It carries a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for cleaner entry and reduced thrust. The 44130 measures 1-5/8 inches overall length with a flute length of 11/16 inches and a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.0400 inches. Diameter tolerance is held to -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance drilling in production and maintenance applications. This bit is rated for general purpose use and conforms to DIN 338.
The CHICAGO-LATROBE 44130 is intended for drilling cast iron and steel in light production, maintenance, and fabrication settings. Its compact No. 60 wire gauge size makes it a common choice when small-diameter, precision holes are required, such as pilot holes, instrument panel work, or light sheet-metal drilling. The jobber length format fits standard drill chucks and is compatible with benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups operating at appropriate spindle speeds for high speed steel tooling. Series 150 construction targets general purpose shop and field use.
Designed as a general purpose replacement or stock bit for applications requiring a No. 60 wire gauge drill in cast iron or steel. Conforms to DIN 338, making it interchangeable with other DIN 338 No. 60 jobber length drill bits.
Installation and use of small-diameter drill bits should be performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified tradespeople familiar with proper spindle speeds and feeds for high speed steel tooling in the target material. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent walking or bit breakage at this diameter. Do not apply excessive feed pressure on small-diameter bits; allow the cutting edge to work at the appropriate chip load. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace immediately if chipping or dulling is observed.
