The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43618 is a jobber length twist drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from M7 high speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance compared to uncoated HSS bits. The bit measures 9/32 inches (0.2812 inches decimal) in diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. Overall length is 4-1/4 inches with a flute length of 2-15/16 inches. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations.
This bit is built for professionals drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in fabrication, maintenance, plumbing rough-in, HVAC sheet metal work, and general mechanical applications. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on corded and cordless drills as well as drill presses. The Series 150ASP-TC designation indicates a web-thinned, tapered-web construction that reduces cutting resistance in harder alloys, making it well suited for production environments where bit longevity matters. It ships individually and is sold as a single unit.
Designed for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank; primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron, stainless steel, and steel.
This bit is installed and used by machinists, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and maintenance mechanics using handheld drills or drill presses. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before use and verify chuck key is removed before starting the machine. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to manage heat buildup, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and TiCN coating for wear before each use and replace the bit when point geometry is degraded to avoid oversized holes or work-hardening the substrate.
