The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43610 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling applications. Built from M7 high speed steel with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS bits. The bit measures 5/32 inch (0.1562 inch decimal) in diameter with a 3-1/8 inch overall length and a 2-inch spiral flute length. A 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole, making it well-suited for hard and abrasive materials. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters.
This bit is rated for cutting cast iron, stainless steel, and steel, covering a wide range of workpiece materials common in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general metalworking trades. The right-hand cut, regular spiral, and web-thinned tapered web geometry are optimized for medium-to-hard metals where heat buildup and tool wear are primary concerns. It meets NAS 907 Type B standards, confirming dimensional and performance requirements used in precision trade and manufacturing environments. The Series 150ASP-TC classification designates it as a heavy-duty, high-performance drill bit suitable for production or service use.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and drill presses accepting a 5/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC service professionals using handheld drills or drill presses. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when the point shows signs of dulling to maintain hole accuracy and prevent workpiece damage.
