The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43605 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for high-performance metal drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from M7 high speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS. The bit measures 5/64 inch (0.0781 inch) in diameter with a 2 inch overall length and a 1 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point geometry self-centers on the workpiece, reducing walking and the need for a center punch on hard materials. Web thinning lowers thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation.
The 43605 is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in fabrication, mechanical contracting, and maintenance environments. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The right-hand spiral flute and regular helix angle make it compatible with conventional drill presses, hand drills, and CNC setups running at appropriate surface speeds for ferrous materials. It is a single-piece unit sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill bit for applications requiring a 5/64 inch straight-shank twist drill in ferrous and hard-metal drilling operations per NAS 907 Type B standards. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, and steel as stated by the manufacturer.
Install in a keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for the shank diameter before applying power. Ensure the workpiece is secured in a vise or fixture before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat and prolong edge life. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use; a dull or chipped bit increases thrust, generates excess heat, and risks workpiece damage.
