Product Description

The CHICAGO-LATROBE 43604 is a jobber-length twist drill bit ground from M7 high speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials. It carries a 135-degree split-point geometry with web thinning, which reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1/16 inch in diameter with a 1-inch shank length, and the overall length is 1-7/8 inches with a 7/8-inch flute length. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently on right-hand cut applications. It is sized to NAS 907 Type B standards and graded heavy duty for production drilling environments.

This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service applications. The small 1/16-inch diameter makes it a common choice for pilot holes, rivet holes, and precision through-holes in sheet metal and structural steel. HVAC technicians, pipefitters, electricians, and general metalworkers who require a consistent, tight-tolerance small-diameter bit in daily production use will find this bit appropriate for their work. The TiCN coating adds heat resistance and surface hardness beyond standard bright-finish HSS, making it especially useful in stainless steel applications where heat buildup is a concern.

Key Features

  • M7 high speed steel construction for toughness and wear resistance in hard metals
  • TiCN coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life versus uncoated HSS
  • 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust and prevents walking on entry
  • Right-hand cut, regular spiral flute design for efficient chip evacuation
  • Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters
  • Meets NAS 907 Type B standard for dimensional and performance consistency

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or replenishment drill bit for Series 150ASP-TC applications. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank.

Installation Notes

This bit is installed and used by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades requiring precision small-diameter drilling in metal. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel to manage heat buildup and extend bit life. Dispose of worn or chipped bits rather than regrinding at this diameter, as small HSS bits are difficult to regrind accurately without specialized equipment.
