The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42711 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 41 (0.0960 inches decimal), built from high-speed steel with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows faster penetration with less feed pressure. Web thinning further reduces cutting resistance at the center of the bit. The tapered web configuration adds strength along the flute. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix provide consistent chip evacuation. This is a right-hand cut, straight-cylindrical shank bit rated for heavy-duty use in production and precision drilling environments.
The 42711 is engineered to the NAS 907 Type B standard and is listed as a high-performance bit with titanium as the primary workpiece material. It is well suited for aerospace, defense, and precision metalworking applications where tight hole tolerances and hard or exotic alloys are involved. The TiAlN coating handles elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade uncoated HSS tooling. Licensed HVAC, mechanical, and general maintenance shops dealing with stainless or titanium fastener patterns will also find this bit useful for close-tolerance work.
Designed as a standard jobber-length replacement or production bit for applications requiring a wire gauge 41 diameter hole in titanium, stainless steel, or similar hard alloys where TiAlN-coated HSS tooling is specified.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a compatible chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits for close-tolerance work. Cutting speeds and feeds should be set per the workpiece material and coating manufacturer recommendations. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before reuse; a damaged TiAlN coating on a worn bit will not perform to rated specifications.
