The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41712 is a wire gauge No. 42 jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated alternatives. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or uneven surfaces. At 0.0935 inch decimal diameter with a 2-1/4 inch overall length and 1-1/4 inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length drill chucks and is suited for precision hole work where tight tolerances matter.
This bit is built for professionals drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in fabrication, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC applications. The right-hand spiral flute with regular spiral type provides efficient chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 1.0000 inch shank length seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. It meets NAS 907 Type B standards, making it appropriate for aerospace and heavy-duty industrial environments. Sold individually per package.
Designed for use in standard jobber-length drill chuck setups on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC machines. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, stainless steel, and steel as specified by the manufacturer. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150ASP-TN product line.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement, especially when working with small-diameter bits that are more susceptible to breakage under lateral load. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edge and TiN coating before each use — a chipped or worn tip on a small-diameter bit should be replaced rather than resharpened in the field.
