The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41631 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling in professional trade and industrial environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding materials. The 135-degree split point provides fast, self-centering engagement and reduces walking on hard surfaces. At 5-7/8 inches overall length with a 4-3/8-inch flute length, it fits standard jobber-length applications and is compatible with most drill chucks and driver setups commonly found in metalworking and mechanical trade work.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in residential and commercial mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade applications. The 31/64-inch diameter (0.4844 inches decimal) is a common sizing for pilot holes, bolt clearance, and conduit or fitting preparation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks. The two-flute spiral design provides efficient chip evacuation, making it practical for both handheld and drill-press use on the job site or in the shop.
Designed for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Part of the Chicago-Latrobe Series 150ASP-TN, which is a heavy-duty TiN-coated jobber-length line meeting NAS 907 Type B standards. Fits standard straight-cylindrical chuck sizes.
Install into a keyed or keyless drill chuck appropriate for the 1.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Power down and de-energize any equipment before drilling into live electrical enclosures or mechanical assemblies. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel to extend bit life and manage heat. A licensed or qualified tradesperson should ensure drilling operations comply with applicable codes and workplace safety requirements.
