The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11070 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit engineered for precision drilling in tight-clearance and deep-reach applications. Built to Series 906 standards, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing walking on entry and lowering thrust requirements. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.098 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard chucks. An oxide finish adds surface hardness and mild corrosion resistance. The right-hand spiral flute runs 1.375 inches in length, and overall tool length is 6 inches. Diameter tolerance is held to plus 0.0000 to minus 0.0005 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work in metal fabrication and aerospace-style maintenance tasks.
This drill bit is designed for use in aircraft-style extension drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. The 6-inch overall length provides the clearance needed when working inside structural assemblies, panel cavities, or deep bores. Wire gauge size 40 (0.098 inches decimal equivalent) makes it a common choice for small-diameter pilot holes, rivet-hole preparation, and precision through-holes in sheet metal. General-purpose tool performance suits ferrous and non-ferrous metals encountered in HVAC fabrication, mechanical systems maintenance, and light industrial work. Sold individually.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards. Fits standard chucks accepting a 0.098-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before beginning any drilling operation. Power down the drill press or disconnect the cordless tool battery before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Wear ANSI-rated eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped securely to prevent rotation during drilling.
