The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11060 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling in hard-to-reach locations where standard-length bits cannot reach. Built to Series 906 specifications, it carries a wire gauge size of 30, which corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1285 inches. The 135-degree split point is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing the force needed to start a hole and minimizing walking on hard or curved surfaces. The oxide finish provides a degree of lubricity and corrosion resistance during cutting operations. This bit is suited for use by aviation maintenance technicians, aerospace fabricators, and general metalworking trades.
This drill bit is intended for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in sheet metal, structural aluminum, and other materials common to aircraft and aerospace assembly environments. The extended overall length of 6 inches gives technicians access to fastener locations in confined airframe sections, wing structures, and similar tight-clearance applications. It is also used in general industrial metalworking where extended reach is required. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and extension holders.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or service drill bit for applications requiring a wire size 30 aircraft extension drill conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards. Compatible with any standard drill chuck or holder accepting a 0.1285-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this drill bit is typically performed by aviation maintenance technicians, aerospace assemblers, or industrial machinists. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the drill chuck before operation to prevent slippage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the material being drilled to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable workplace safety standards when operating rotary cutting tools.
