The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11018 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. Built to Series 906 specifications and conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials. The oxide finish provides moderate lubricity and corrosion resistance during cutting operations. With a 5/16 inch diameter and a 3.1875-inch flute length on a 6-inch overall body, it delivers extended reach without sacrificing rigidity. Licensed trades and aerospace maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this tool.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose metal drilling in applications where extended reach is required, such as drilling through structural members, deep cavities, or stacked materials in aviation, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. The spiral flute geometry with a tapered, web-thinned web configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It cuts in a right-hand direction and is appropriate for use with standard corded or cordless drill presses and hand drills.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards, compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical 5/16 inch shank.
This drill bit is intended for use by trade professionals and qualified technicians operating hand drills or drill presses. Always secure the workpiece and verify chuck tightness before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous metals to extend tool life and maintain hole tolerance. Confirm the drill press speed is set to a rate appropriate for the material and bit diameter before starting the cut.
