The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 95103 is a 1/4-20 national coarse (NC) plug-style fractional tap designed for hand cutting internal threads in metal and other materials. The plug tap features precision-cut threads that are accurately formed to produce consistent, exact thread profiles with each pass. The tool is heat treated and tempered for hardened threads, which extends service life under repeated use. Each package includes 2 taps, making it a practical choice for tradespeople and machinists who need a backup on the job.
This plug tap is suited for general threading applications where a 1/4-20 NC thread is required. The plug style — which starts with a moderate taper — is the most common tap type for through-holes and blind holes alike. It is commonly used in hand-tapping operations during mechanical assembly, repair work, and fabrication tasks across plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general mechanical trades.
Designed as a standard 1/4-20 NC plug tap for use with compatible tap handles and T-handle wrenches in hand-tapping applications across general mechanical and trade work.
This tap is intended for use with a proper tap handle or T-handle wrench — never force the tap with excessive torque, as tap breakage may result. Apply cutting oil or thread-cutting lubricant to the tap and workpiece before beginning to reduce friction and extend tool life. Clear chips frequently by backing the tap out a half turn for every full turn forward, especially in blind holes. Work with appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece firmly before tapping.
