The CARMEX 60100056 is an indexable thread mill designed for cutting internal and external threads in a wide range of materials. With a 0.35 inch cutting diameter and a maximum hole depth of 1.38 inches, this tool handles demanding threading operations on machining centers and CNC mills. The CMT-style toolholder accepts C12 and S17 inserts secured by a screw-clamping method, allowing quick insert changes without removing the tool from the spindle. Through-coolant capability delivers cutting fluid directly to the cutting zone, improving chip evacuation and extending insert life during continuous thread milling cycles. Overall tool length is 4.0 inches with a 0.625 inch shank diameter.
This thread mill is suited for job shop and production machining environments where a single tool must produce both internal and external threads across multiple thread forms and sizes. The indexable insert design reduces tooling cost per thread compared to solid carbide thread mills by allowing insert replacement rather than full tool replacement. Typical applications include threading bores, bosses, and threaded features in steel, aluminum, stainless, and other machinable alloys on 3-axis or multi-axis CNC machining centers.
Accepts C12 and S17 style indexable inserts as specified by CARMEX for the CMT toolholder platform. Designed as an OEM-compatible replacement or direct-application thread mill for CNC machining centers using standard 0.625 inch shank tooling interfaces.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician familiar with thread milling cycles. Verify spindle runout and holder concentricity before mounting to prevent premature insert wear. Confirm through-coolant passages in the spindle and holder are clear and delivering adequate pressure before initiating cuts. Follow the machine tool builder and insert manufacturer recommendations for speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material.
