The CARMEX 30-8NPTMT7 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for cutting NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads at 8 teeth per inch. Coated with TiAlN finish, this insert handles both internal and external threading operations in a single tool path. The conical insert geometry conforms to ANSI B1.20.1-1983, the governing standard for NPT thread form and taper. Built from submicron carbide in the MT7 grade, it delivers the edge retention and heat resistance that high-speed thread milling demands. Insert thickness is 0.2165 inches (5.50 mm). Machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC thread milling operations on pipe thread applications are the primary users.
This insert is suited for thread milling NPT pipe threads in production and job-shop environments where both internal and external thread forms are required on the same part. The 8 TPI pitch matches standard NPT sizing for common pipe fittings and valve bodies. Applications span industrial machining, fluid system component production, and manufacturing environments that hold NPT thread tolerances to ANSI B1.20.1-1983. The insert style code is 30IE, indicating compatibility with 30-series insert-style thread mill bodies.
Designed for use with 30-series CARMEX thread mill insert bodies accepting the 30IE insert style. Confirm body compatibility with insert style code 30IE and the 30 insert size code before ordering.
Thread mill inserts are installed and changed by machining professionals on CNC milling or machining centers - ensure the machine spindle is powered down and the tool is secured in a safe position before replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw as specified by the tool body manufacturer; do not overtighten clamping screws. Inspect the insert seating pocket for chips or debris before installation to ensure full, flat insert contact. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing and disposal.
