The CARMEX 3/8INRHG60MXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal right-hand thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 60-degree partial profile form for cutting unified and metric thread forms across a broad TPI range of 14 to 8 threads per inch, equivalent to a metric pitch range of 1.75 to 3.00 mm. The insert measures 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.146 inches thick. A PVD-applied TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces built-up edge, extending tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. This insert is suited for machinists and toolroom technicians running internal threading operations in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S - spanning carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temp alloys. It is well-suited to internal threading in through-holes and blind bores on standard CNC turning equipment. The 16 IR insert style seats in compatible 16-series right-hand internal threading toolholders. Typical applications include producing standard fastener threads, hydraulic fitting threads, and precision threaded bores in machined components.
Designed for use in 16-series right-hand internal threading toolholders compatible with the 16 IR insert style. Partial profile 60-degree geometry is compatible with unified (UN/UNC/UNF) and metric (M) thread standards within the 14 to 8 TPI and 1.75 to 3.00 mm pitch range.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper seating - do not overtighten. Verify insert orientation and thread hand before running a test pass on scrap or a non-critical workpiece.
