The CARMEX 3/8INRH18UNP2 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for cutting internal UN threads on a lathe or CNC turning center. Built from solid carbide with a TiN coating applied via PVD process, it delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert carries a P25C manufacturer grade and C5 material grade, making it suitable for general-purpose threading operations. It cuts at 18 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle, conforming to UN thread standards. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch and the insert thickness is 0.146 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops and production environments are the primary users.
This insert is used for right-hand internal threading operations on lathes and CNC turning centers. Its universal primary workpiece material classification means it performs across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Typical applications include threading bores, nuts, and internally threaded components where a UN thread form is required. The laydown seating style provides rigid support during the threading pass, which is important for maintaining pitch accuracy and surface finish on internal threads.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars that accept 16IR-style laydown threading inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle seating geometry.
Install this insert into a compatible 16IR internal threading toolholder using the appropriate torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer's seating procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before resuming cutting operations. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended feed rate and depth-of-pass for the specific thread pitch and workpiece material.
