The CARMEX 3/8INRH12UNP2 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch. Built to style 16IR geometry, it features a 60-degree included angle and a PVD-applied TiN coating under manufacturer grade P25C, which corresponds to a C5 material grade. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches and the insert thickness is 0.146 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert into compatible 16IR toolholders to produce precise internal UN threads in a broad range of workpiece materials. It suits production and job-shop environments where consistent thread form and insert longevity are priorities.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range includes carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, nonferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Typical applications include threading bores in hydraulic fittings, fluid-system components, and general mechanical assemblies where UN internal thread forms are required. The right-hand cutting configuration is the standard orientation for the vast majority of internal threading operations on CNC turning centers and manual lathes.
Designed for use in 16IR-style internal threading toolholders. Compatible with CNC turning centers and manual lathes accepting 16IR insert seats. Suitable for cutting UN internal threads across workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing any insert. Use the correct torx or clamp screw specified for the 16IR toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the seating surface. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure full contact and accurate thread form.
