The CARMEX 3/8EXRHA60MXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. This right-hand insert produces a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers a threading range of 48 to 16 TPI, equivalent to a pitch range of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. The insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.146-inch thickness. A PVD-applied TiN coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed threading passes. Machinists and CNC operators use this insert for threading operations across a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless, aluminum, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys.
This insert is suited for external threading applications in both production and job-shop environments. The universal material compatibility makes it a practical choice for shops that thread a variety of workpiece materials without changing insert grades. It fits standard 16ER-style toolholders commonly found on manual and CNC turning equipment. Typical applications include threading shafts, fittings, fasteners, and hydraulic components where a 60-degree unified or metric partial profile thread is required.
Designed for use in standard 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. The partial profile 60-degree geometry is compatible with unified inch and 60-degree metric external thread forms. Verify toolholder bore size and clamping style before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or damage before each installation to ensure proper seating and thread accuracy.
