The CARMEX 21I20UNMT7 is a carbide thread mill insert engineered for internal UN threading applications. Manufactured from submicron carbide in the MT7 grade, this insert carries a TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life under demanding cutting conditions. With a thread pitch of 20 teeth per inch (TPI) and a thickness of 0.185 inches (4.7 mm), it provides consistent thread form on internal UN profiles. The insert follows insert style 21I and conforms to ANSI B1.1-1989 standards. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC tooling professionals working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for internal UN thread milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where tight thread tolerances and surface finish quality are required. The TiAlN coating makes it a practical choice for dry or semi-dry cutting environments and for applications involving elevated cutting temperatures. It is designed for use in thread milling toolholders compatible with the 21I insert style, common in CNC machining centers. Typical applications include threading bores in precision components across aerospace, industrial, and general manufacturing sectors.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for thread milling toolholders accepting the 21I insert style in internal UN threading configurations.
Thread mill insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and seating specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installation. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when setting tool offsets and running thread milling cycles.
