The CARMEX 16IRA60BXC is a laydown threading insert designed for internal partial profile threading on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a TiN PVD coating, this insert handles a thread pitch range of 48 to 16 TPI (0.50 to 1.50 mm), making it a versatile choice for right-hand internal threading operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle suits unified and metric thread forms. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.146 inches, the 16IRA60BXC seats securely in compatible 16IR toolholders and delivers consistent thread quality in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for internal threading on a broad range of materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and titanium, as indicated by its universal primary workpiece material rating. Typical applications include threading bores, nuts, and internally threaded components on CNC turning equipment. The right-hand cut orientation and partial profile geometry make it appropriate for both production runs and maintenance threading across multiple thread pitches without changing the insert.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 16IR-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 60-degree partial profile geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the 16IRA60BXC to prevent seating errors that affect thread accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw, and confirm proper tool offset compensation in the CNC control before resuming cuts.
