The CARMEX 16IR8UNBMA is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread forms at 8 threads per inch. The insert carries a TiAlN coating applied by PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended edge life in a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 0.146 inch thickness, the 16IR8UNBMA seats in standard 16IR toolholders for right-hand internal threading operations. The 60-degree included angle is correct for Unified National thread profiles. This insert is used by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments where consistent thread quality is required.
This insert is suited for internal threading on a broad range of materials. The BMA grade is a submicron carbide substrate with universal material compatibility, covering steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume CNC turning applications where internal UN threads must meet dimensional standards. The laydown seating style provides stable insert support and consistent thread geometry across the cutting edge.
Designed to seat in standard 16IR threading toolholders. Compatible workpiece materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation of threading inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the thread pitch being machined.
