The CARMEX 16IR14UNBMA is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 14 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured from submicron-grade carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle conforms to standard Unified National thread geometry. With a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle and a 0.1460-inch thickness, it seats securely in compatible laydown-style toolholders. Right-hand cutting orientation suits the majority of standard internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for internal threading applications in production and job-shop environments running CNC turning equipment. The universal material grade designation covers a broad spectrum of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for both high-volume production threading and lower-volume precision work where consistent thread profile and surface finish are required.
Designed for use in laydown-style internal threading toolholders accepting a 16IR insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Suitable for cutting internal UN threads at 14 TPI in workpiece materials spanning ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert without over-torquing, which can crack carbide. Verify insert orientation and tool stick-out before resuming threading cycles, and confirm thread pitch and hand match the programmed toolpath.
