The CARMEX 16IR12ACMEMXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal Acme threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. It runs at 12 threads per inch with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.146-inch thickness, following the 16IR insert style standard. The insert is manufactured from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiN coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The included angle is 45 degrees, consistent with standard Acme thread geometry. This is a right-hand insert intended for internal threading operations. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in general manufacturing, maintenance, and production environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for internal Acme thread cutting in both prototype and production runs across universal workpiece material categories, including ferrous metals, stainless steels, cast materials, non-ferrous alloys, plastics, and heat-resistant alloys. The Acme thread form is common in lead screws, power transmission components, vises, and linear actuators. The MXC grade and micrograin carbide substrate make the 16IR12ACMEMXC a general-purpose threading solution capable of handling varied materials without requiring frequent grade changes between jobs.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 16IR insert style. Compatible workpiece material groups include H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier classification, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless and heat-resistant alloys, non-ferrous materials, steel, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and tighten to the toolholder specification. Verify insert seating and thread form alignment with a test pass and thread gauge before committing to a production run.
