The CARMEX 16IR115NPTFP25C is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPTF threads at 11.5 threads per inch. The insert carries a P25C manufacturer grade and a C5 material grade, making it suited for a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a PVD-applied TiN coating that extends cutting edge life in demanding threading operations. The included angle is 30 degrees, and the right-hand configuration is standard for conventional internal thread-cutting setups. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible laydown-style threading toolholders for pipe thread applications.
This insert is used in precision threading of internal NPTF pipe threads, typically in machining centers, CNC lathes, and manual turning operations where tapered pipe thread forms are required. The NPTF thread standard ensures a mechanically pressure-tight joint without the need for sealant. With a universal primary workpiece material designation, the 16IR115NPTFP25C is applicable across a broad range of materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys. It is commonly specified in production threading of hydraulic fittings, pneumatic connectors, and fluid system components.
Designed for use in 16-series laydown threading toolholders that accept inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.146 inch thickness. Compatible with universal workpiece material grades including H, K, M, N, P, and S classifications.
This insert is installed and serviced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly and evenly in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or wear before each production run to avoid thread form errors.
