The CARMEX 16IR/EL0.094BXC is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on metalworking lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied TiN coating and a BXC manufacturer grade, making it suited for cutting cast iron and steel workpieces. The insert delivers a cutting width of 0.094 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.089 inches. A positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a corner radius of 0.040 inches contribute to clean, controlled chip formation. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians operating CNC or manual turning equipment.
The 16IR/EL0.094BXC is intended for Series 16 toolholders and is compatible with both left-hand and right-hand applications. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron and steel, classified under ISO material grades K and P respectively. Typical use cases include groove turning, parting prep, and profile work on production or job-shop lathes. The insert conforms to ISO standards, making it interchangeable within ISO-compliant tooling systems. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.157-inch hole diameter are characteristic of Series 16 insert geometry.
Designed for use in Series 16 grooving toolholders accepting the 16IR/EL insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Suitable for left-hand and right-hand setups. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel per ISO material grade codes K and P.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cuts, and confirm the correct hand orientation matches the toolholder setup before engaging the workpiece.
