The CARMEX 16IR/EL0.062BXC is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision internal and external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to Series 16 geometry, this insert features a 0.062-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.075 inches, making it well suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles in ferrous and cast iron workpieces. The TiN coating is applied via PVD process, providing surface hardness and wear resistance without dimensional distortion. A positive 15-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces and improves chip control. Corner radius measures 0.004 inches. The insert is rated to material grade C6 and conforms to ISO standards.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking and machining environments where consistent groove geometry is required. It supports both left-hand and right-hand cutting orientations, offering flexibility across varied fixturing setups. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. Typical applications include groove turning, undercut profiling, and parting operations on production runs in job shop or manufacturing settings. Machining technicians and CNC operators working with ferrous materials will find this insert compatible with Series 16 toolholders.
Designed for use with Series 16 grooving toolholders accepting 16IR/EL-style inserts. Suitable for steel and cast iron workpieces per ISO material codes P and K.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machining technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the toolholder and insert combination in use.
