The CARMEX 16IR/EL0.039BXC is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision turning and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a TiN coating applied via PVD process, a 0.039-inch cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.055 inches. The insert uses a positive rake geometry at 15 degrees, which reduces cutting forces and heat buildup during operation. Rated at material grade C6, it is engineered for controlled-chip removal in demanding machining environments. CNC machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert into compatible 16-series toolholders for internal and external grooving work.
This insert is suited for grooving and profiling operations on cast iron and steel workpieces in both production and jobshop turning applications. Its left-hand and right-hand capability makes it adaptable across a range of part geometries without requiring separate inserts for each hand orientation. The 16IR/EL0.039BXC is intended for use on CNC lathes, turning centers, and multi-axis machines where tight groove tolerances are required. It conforms to ISO standards, making it compatible with ISO-compliant tooling systems.
Designed for use with 16-series grooving toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel, corresponding to ISO material codes K and P. Suitable for internal and external grooving applications on CNC lathes and turning centers using ISO-compliant tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure, and confirm the insert is fully seated and locked before resuming cuts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
