The CARMEX 16ERB12UNBMA is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread turning on CNC lathes and threading machines. It cuts at 12 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle, making it suited for standard Unified National thread profiles. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process and carries a BMA manufacturer grade built on a submicron carbide substrate. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a thickness of 0.146 inches, the 16ER style insert seats into compatible laydown-style toolholders. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard. Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool-and-die professionals.
This insert is intended for external threading operations on a broad range of workpiece materials. The universal primary workpiece material designation covers ferrous and non-ferrous metals including carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, aluminum alloys, titanium, and superalloys, as reflected by the H, K, M, N, P, and S material codes. It is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent thread form and tool life across mixed-material runs are required. The B chipbreaker geometry supports chip control during threading passes.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders accepting inserts with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle and 0.146-inch thickness in standard UN external thread applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and all axes locked before insert exchange. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without over-tightening. Verify thread pitch and hand orientation match the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
