The CARMEX 16ER24UNMXC/G is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread forms at 24 threads per inch. Manufactured from carbide with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread quality across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle conforms to the Unified National thread standard, making it a direct fit for common inch-series threading operations. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.146 inches, it seats correctly in compatible ER-style toolholders. Right-hand cutting geometry suits standard external threading passes on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for external threading on turning centers and CNC lathes in job shop, production machining, and contract manufacturing environments. The MXC grade is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, high-temp alloys, and plastics. It is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume threading runs where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators handling inch-series UN fastener profiles are the primary users of this insert style.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16ER-style external threading insert seats. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 16ER insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.146-inch thickness. No specific OEM toolholder model numbers were provided in the product data.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC operator during tooling setup on a lathe or turning center. Power down the spindle and engage the machine lock before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
