The CARMEX 16ER18NPTBXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting external NPT threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Running at 18 threads per inch with a 30-degree included angle, this right-hand insert produces tapered NPT pipe threads used throughout plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping applications. The BXC manufacturer grade designates a PVD-applied TiN coating that improves surface hardness and extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.146 inches, it seats securely in compatible ER-style laydown toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, OEM production environments, and mechanical trade shops are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for threading operations on pipe fittings, valves, couplings, and other components requiring NPT tapered thread forms. Its universal primary workpiece material rating covers steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, making it appropriate for both general production runs and specialty material work. The external thread configuration is standard for cutting male NPT threads on bar stock and tubular workpieces. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use in 16 ER-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Suitable for external NPT threading applications across universal workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or experienced lathe operators familiar with indexable threading insert toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before installation, as contamination will affect insert seating and thread accuracy. Verify correct insert orientation for right-hand external threading before resuming operations.
