The CARMEX 16ER14UNJBMA is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD coating, this insert cuts 14 threads per inch to the UN thread standard with a 60-degree included angle. The BMA grade is suited for a broad range of workpiece materials, making it a practical choice for general-purpose threading operations in a production environment. A right-hand configuration and 3/8-inch inscribed circle place it firmly in the 16ER insert family. Machining professionals and tool crib personnel working in job shops or precision manufacturing facilities will encounter this insert regularly.
This insert is used for external threading operations on materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, reflected by the universal workpiece material classifications. The 16ER style seats into compatible laydown threading toolholders on manual or CNC turning equipment. It is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume threading runs where consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy are required. The UN thread form at 14 TPI is common in general mechanical fastening and industrial assembly applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting the 16ER laydown threading insert style. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-recommended torx or hex key to secure the insert clamp screw to the specified seating torque for your toolholder make and model. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and thread form accuracy.
