The CARMEX 16ER11.5NPTFMXC is a laydown threading insert designed for external NPTF thread forms at 11.5 threads per inch. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread quality and extended tool life in production threading operations. The 30-degree included angle and 3/8 inch inscribed circle geometry conform to the 16 ER insert style standard. At 0.146 inches thick, it seats securely in compatible ER-style holders. The MXC grade is engineered for universal workpiece material compatibility, making it a practical choice for shops threading a wide range of alloys and materials on CNC lathes and threading machines.
This insert is suited for external NPTF pipe thread applications in manufacturing, machining, and maintenance environments. Right-hand cutting orientation makes it the standard selection for conventional threading operations. With universal material compatibility across ferrous, non-ferrous, and exotic alloy classifications, it performs in job shop and production settings alike. Machinists and CNC operators producing tapered pipe thread connections in hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid system components will find this insert directly applicable to their threading programs.
Designed for use in 16 ER-style laydown threading insert holders for external NPTF right-hand threading operations. Confirm holder pocket dimensions against the 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.146 inch insert thickness before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when clamping the insert - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Verify insert seating and thread form accuracy with a first-article thread gauge before running production.
