The CARMEX 16ER10UNC5/P30 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. Running at 10 threads per inch (TPI) with a 60-degree included angle, it produces unified national thread forms on a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert carries a C-5 material grade and P30 manufacturer grade, making it suited for moderate-to-heavy interrupted and continuous threading cuts. The uncoated carbide substrate provides sharp edges and consistent chip formation without the added thickness of a coating layer. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert into compatible ER-style laydown toolholders.
This insert is used in production and job-shop turning operations where external UN threads are required. The right-hand cutting geometry is standard for conventional thread-turning passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.146-inch thickness, the 16ER form factor fits toolholders that accept the 16 ER insert style. The P30 grade targets steel and a broad range of material classes including aluminum, cast iron, stainless, high-temp alloys, and non-ferrous materials, as indicated by the H, K, M, N, P, and S workpiece material codes.
Designed for use in toolholders that accept the 16 ER laydown insert style for external threading applications. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and high-temp alloy classifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify thread form and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before running full production.
